Rugrats is an American animated TV series on Nickelodeon. It premiered on August 11, 1991 and ended production on August 1, 2004. However, Nickelodeon released a revival of the show Rugrats on May 27, 2021, and is currently working on a live-action CGI hybrid movie in the future.

Description[]

The show Rugrats was about talking babies named Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, Phil and Lil, Dil Pickles, Angelica Pickles, Susie Karmichael, and Kimi. Tommy and his friends have adventures together and discover the world. Angelica is always making fun of them and calling them babies. In every episode, the parents are unaware of what the babies are up to in the show.

History[]

Before the Rugrats (1980's-1991)[]

In the 1980's, the creators of Rugrats Arlene Klasky and Gabor Csupo came up with the idea of a show about talking babies that have adventures and explore the world around them.

Rugrats years (1991-2004)[]

On August 11, 1991 at 9:00 AM ET, Rugrats premiered on Nickelodeon as the third new Nicktoons show.

All Grown Up! years (2003-2008)[]

On April 12, 2003, the popular Rugrats spin-off All Grown Up! premiered on Nickelodeon, Nicktoons, and Teen Nick.

Rugrats: Angelica's Preschool Daze (2008)[]

In 2008, Rugrats got another spin-off called Rugrats: Preschool Daze. It was about Angelica and Susie going to preschool and doing crazy things together like they did in Rugrats and All Grown Up!. The series only lasted for about 4 episodes and was cancelled in 2008.

Post-Rugrats age and reunion (2008-2021)[]

In 2008, after the Rugrats spin-off shows All Grown Up! ended on August 17, 2008 and Rugrats: Preschool Daze ended in , 2008, the Rugrats characters and Rugrats franchise remained popular even after the shows ended mostly due to a large fanbase between its original audience as well as younger kids and new generations because Rugrats was then considered at this time a figure of the 90's with its clever humor and appeal to both kids and adults unlike the modern Nickelodeon show SpongeBob SquarePants.

In 2017, Nickelodeon announced plans for a reboot series of Rugrats. After the recent success of the TV specials Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus, and the recently successful Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie, Nickelodeon approved the new reboot and was scheduled for release by 2021.
